Get Active Along Some of the Best Trails in Pennsylvania

  • Pennypack Trail: A poplar rail trail that runs 5.4 miles from Rockledge North to Byberry Road along the former Fox Chase-Newtown Line, the Pennypack Trail travels through wooded parks and takes it name from a local American Indian term for a slow-moving creek. You’ll take in creekside views and finish by viewing a broad vista across the Delaware River.
  • Pine Run Preamble: For something a little shorter that works for all abilities and still offers sweeping scenic views, the Pine Run Preamble is a good choice. Best used from April through to September, it runs 2.4 miles in an easy loop.
  • Wissahickon Loop: Wissahickon Loop is a well trafficked loop trail, and for good reason. Boasting an 820-foot elevation gain over 6.9 miles, it’s a great moderate trail for those looking to get more of a workout from their next hike. Waterfall views create a great place to take a breather and enjoy the scenery.
  • Wissahickon Gorge North Loop: Another loop trail, the Wissahickon Gorge North Loop offers plenty of great activities across 4.7 miles, plus a 662-foot elevation gain. If you want something a little less strenuous than the standard Wissahickon Loop, this one should work for you.
  • Fort Washington Trail: Located near Fort Washington, this 5.4-mile track is ideal for those who want a back trail that takes them past beautiful wildflowers. Relatively flat and without any natural challenges, it makes a nice long walk for those who prefer strolling to sweating.
